Dot Negus

George was born in Indroopilly, Brisbane in 1942. His mother, mother Dot (Doris Negus) recently passed away. George was only 4 years old when his mechanic-father died after a work-accident. George inherited a bigger family when he met partner, Adelaide-born journalist Kirsty Cockburn. They now have two sons, Ned and Serge and three nieces.

Kirsty's family had lived in Adelaide, Washington DC and Canberra during her childhood. Mother Beatrice and younger brother Malcolm died in the late 80's. Older sister, Carol, works in school-age literacy and standards testing whilst Jenny works in international law in the USA.

The girls' father, Stewart Cockburn, is an Adelaide-based Walkley-award winning newspaper journalist and author of nuclear scientist and State governor Sir Mark Oliphant's definitive biography. His other five books include his own journalist-father's Nomenclature of South Australia and the Salisbury Affair (written after Premier Don Dunstan sacked the South Australian police commissioner). Stewart remarried retired SA politician, Jennifer Cashmore.
